TILT: Good Faith

TILT is Songbird's album review section! I make it a weekly mission to listen to new music, and the one that makes the biggest impression on me gets a video and a blog post. It's all about celebrating music all across the spectrum. Please enjoy

Check out the video review on all of our socials now.

    Today I listened to
Good Faith. This is the sophomore album by French electronic producer Madeon (Hugo Leclercq). Released in November 2019, this project came after a five-year hiatus following his debut album Adventure, and it marks a complete sonic reinvention for the producer.

EDM is my happy place. It was the first genre to help me escape the pop bubble back in 2017. It was digestible enough not to scare me off, but super interesting. Madeon is one of those artists that I first heard in the EDM sphere. I first heard him through the wonderful "Shelter" by him and Porter Robinson. Ever since that wonderful video, I have been a fan.

With a new record, "Victory," on the horizon, I wanted to take a look at Good Faith and see how this classic album holds up. Spoiler: It does. The Lush synths, euphoric builds, and vocals make this project a joy to listen to.

The Highs:

All My Friends: This is the flagship song off this project. It is so so good. Check it out.

Be Fine: This track showcases everything that makes Good Faith special. The production is intricate but never cluttered, and there's this underlying optimism even when the lyrics touch on uncertainty.

Mirace:  This is one of my all-time favorite drivers. It builds for a solid minute into a crazy drop that just makes you smile.

A Complaint:

The Vocals: While I admire Madeon taking on vocal duties himself throughout the entire album, there are moments where his voice doesn't work. A lot of it is the processing. It feels like he is a little scared to drop off the blips and blops on the voice, but her should because his classic voice is lovely.

All things considered, this album is a journey, and I think it's an extraordinary soundscape that any electronic fan should check out. I give it a 4 out of 5.

This is one of the albums for which we have a poster. Here is the Madeon Good Faith Songbird Poster. Truly one of my favorites.

A poster with lush vibrant colors and the visual representations of every song on "Good Faith" By the EDM artist Madeon

TILT - Peach Pit Magpie: A wonderful vibe

TILT is Songbird's album review section! I make it a weekly mission to listen to new music, and the one that makes the biggest impression on me gets a video and a blog post. It's all about celebrating music all across the spectrum. Please enjoy   Today I listened to Magpie. This is the newest album by the Canadian indie rock group Peach Pit. Even though it came out earlier last year, I will be going to a Peach Pit concert this week, so I gotta do some prep. Songbird Olivia, our Proofreader*, is much more well-versed in their discography, and I'm coming along for the ride.     Ahhhhhhhhhhhh… indie! This is my default genre. When I work, play games, or auxing for a group of people where I don't know the vibe, Indie is the vibe, and it always works. My favorites are Clairo, Arcy Drive, and the Backseat Lovers. However, indie is a genre where you will hear one song from an artist and go down a rabbit hole, or just listen to that one song by them.     ...

TILT: Wednesday, "Bleeds"

I first saw/heard of Wednesday at the Pitchfork Music Festival during the summer last year. My sister and I were walking back to the main stage after seeing a set from a group that our dad suggested(they were not good, but we will not name names). I was instantly attracted to Karly Hartzman’s calming voice over loud guitar passages and hard bass lines. The southern sound was familiar to folk/Americana music I had heard before, but the instrumentals it lay over gave it a new meaning.         Bleeds by Wednesday is an album that blends the sound of Appalachian blues, funk, bluegrass, and too many genres to list. The North Carolina band’s sophomore album follows similar sounds to their debut album,  Rat Saw God , while offering a more mature reflection on their time in the music industry. Lead Singer Karly Hartzman writes with a maturity beyond her years about love lost, abuse of power dynamics in disenfranchised America, an...

SISTER By Frost Children: A Blast of Sound

TILT is Songbird's album review section! I make it a weekly mission to listen to new music, and the one that makes the biggest impression on me gets a video and a blog post. It's all about celebrating music all across the spectrum. Please enjoy      Today I Listened To: SISTER by the Electronic duo, The Frost Children . I don't know about you, but my first exposure to the Frost Children was "Mona Lisa" from SMILE:D by Porter Robinson . That song's visceral, so loud you can hear the caps of the sound energy is something that I loved in that song, making it one of my favorite cuts off of SMILE:D .            When I went to explore the Frost Children's Discography, nothing really stuck out, even with the proximity to some of my favorites. Until the singles for SISTER started dropping. I grew up on electronic music. I used to listen to Xkitomusic on YouTube exclusively until high school. I still keep up with bits of the genre,...
